The BrickBreaker Glitch

So by now many of you know that there is a glitch in the BrickBreaker game.  If a brick is too close to the wall, and the ball bounces off of it in a certain way, the ball will disappear into the wall, never to be seen again (or at least until you restart the game).  I just had a game end in which I had 299,330 points and 140 lives.  Bummer.  I have a long flight tomorrow, so maybe I’ll start over!

I figured out how to save the game with a lost ball. Anyone interested?

    Spencer,
If you have a solution, post it. Why do you have to wait for everyone to answer that they are interested?

    Hey Jen,

Thanks for posting to the blog. As far as I know, there is no solution to this glitch. I’ve looked for it, and this may explain why Spencer remains silent!

I had to come back here and post this…I have experienced the “disappearing ball” quite a few times now and I don’t know what just happened, but I managed to actually fire a laser through the silver bricks. Very weird. Unfortunately, I had two bricks left above the silver bricks, and although I got a laser through to break one of the bricks, I still have one more left and, of course, no ball. I got the first brick to break by firing my laser like 200 times at the silver brick, just to see what would happen if I shot it long enough. Eventually, one stray laser went through and broke one of the bricks (just as I was about to give up). I am not having luck with the last brick, however. I have now shot at the silver brick below it for like 1000 times. I plan to keep shooting at it for a while longer. I will let you know if it ultimately works.

P.S. I realize I must have no life to actually come on here and post my excitement over this.

    I forgot I posted this!! I’m sorry-
OK, You’re not going to like it. It’s not a “magic-two-button-trick” , but desperate times call for desperate measures. Here’s the fix:
When the ball disappears just set the phone down with the game going. Period. I have left it for lengths of time varying from several minutes ( like maybe 20) up to over night. At some point when I went back to check the game was as if I had just lost a life w/ the “Try Again” message.

    Continued…
Sometimes the game “pauses” and you have to resume. This is time consuming, BUT, since you have to leave the phone for extended periods, like over night for example, you might as well clear the game then. You might have to leave it a while, but it works. It does cause you to loose a life however. I have done this several times when I have lost the ball straight up. I am not sure if this works when you have “caught” the ball too close to the sides and subsequently shot the ball off into space sideways.
One trick to add to this is to park the paddle directly under a brick that may still be holding a “prize” ( whatever they’re called). That way it will drift down to collect points or a life.
This has worked on my phone at least 10 different times that I have had the patients to wait. I have never gone through all levels more than twice. I think I’ve gotten up to level 20 on the second round, so I have not had a “great” game to save.

    Thanks for posting Spencer…

I currently have over 1,200,000 points. If I space out on my way to 7MM and lose a ball in the wall, I’ll try your trick.

Yeah. I remember when my balls decended, too. Embarassingly, I immediately shot them off into outer space!

Guess that’s why they’re blue all the time… Because it’s cold in outer space!

This is different from the aforementioned “worm hole” glitch, but it I believe I have accidentally cheated on a number of occasions. I can’t explain exactly how I did it, but after completing a level, I’ve moved the track ball and somehow managed to change the level I’m on. For example, after having beat level 15, it brought me to the screen for 16 but just in the nick of time I moved the track ball and skipped a head to 17. I’m just wondering if anyone else has discovered this. It wasn’t just a one time thing…
