The Day I conquered BrickBreaker

When I first saw that people were scoring in the millions on brickbreaker, I thought that there must be a way to cheat.  At the time, I thought I was pretty good, but I had never scored much higher than 30,000 points.  Then a couple of months ago, I had my break through game.  That is when I realized that I could play the game forever without losing.  But this was not the day I conquered BrickBreaker.

I set out to beat the top score of about 1.3 million points.  I played often, and as many people do, I played too often.  There were days on the weekend when I would accumulate 80,000 points.  The day I conquered the game, was the day that I no longer had to play.  I had accumulated over 586,000 points and 140 lives, when my ball bounced off the corner of a brick and vanished into the wall.  The only way to continue play, was to start over.  I did not play for weeks and realized that my quest was over.

I no longer felt the urge to beat the top score.  Ironically, at some point during my quest, the game had conquered me.  Once I found myself staring at my phone in a movie theater during a movie that I had been dying to see!

Have you been conquered by BrickBreaker?  I see strangers in the street, on subways, and in bars totally focused on their blackberrys.  Are they working hard?  Some are, but I have found that most are playing BrickBreaker.  Many good, hard-working people have fallen prey.

I hope hear some of your stories of conquests and defeats.  Maybe I can help you master the game, so you too can stop playing.

Brick breaker has taken me over. I play it everywhere! I am part owner of a telecom company and I am very busy but I find myself losing hours a day playing this thing! I got a pretty high score (I thought) and thats when I submitted my high score and found out how many points others were scoring! To say the least I was extremely dissapointed and was convinced that there were cheat codes and that the high scores were not legit. At this point I stopped playing. Then I picked up again a few weeks later, played a few games, and got interested of how these scores were possible. So I googled cheat codes for brick breaker and discovered that there is a whole world of obsessed brick breaker players out there just like me. My biggest surprise was to learn that these high scores are legit. I now have a goal to pass 500,000. Please help me do this so I can stop this madness. Thank you in advance.

    Hello snikwad,

I have some bad news for you. I don’t think the madness will stop once you reach 500,000.

Believe it or not, the game is quite easy once you complete 2 cycles (34 levels twice through). At this point you will probably have accumulated 20 or so lives. Then it becomes a marathon.

The hardest thing to do is avoid the glitch. When you are playing levels on which the top bricks are close to the wall, keep the ball away from the top. When the bricks move down, you can proceed to attack them. The game becomes so monotonous when you have gone through 30 iterations of every level, it is somethimes hard to keep paying close attention.

The worst is the first time you accumulate a few hundred thousand points before the glitch occurs!

    GOOD LUCK IN YOUR QUEST!

I am a newlywed (4 months now) and the only argument I’ve had with my husband is my excessive brickbreaker habit. It’s like heroin.

  6. Comment by MasterBreaker on February 9, 2008 10:25 am

    Krissy,

I have a fiance of about a year now and we will be married in a few months time. During the pinnacle of my brickbreaking days, she would threaten to throw my phone out of our window on an almost daily basis.

How did you come across this sight? If you were looking for a comparison between heroin and brickbreaking addictions, I don’t think anyone here can help. Just kidding. Good luck with your brickbreaking addiction though.

What level is 16? What are you having problems with exactly? Let me get to that level, and I’ll see if I can give you some tips.

YOU GUYS ARE CRAZY I WISH I WAS AS GOOD AS YOU,

i play it all the time and my highest score is 17,000.
how do you end up with so many?
i thought i was doing all that i could but i guess not

  10. Comment by MasterBreaker on March 26, 2008 8:45 am

    KCF,

At 17,000 points you have almost conquered all the levels. The second time around it is harder to get through all 32, but after that, it is easy. I feel that the game gets easier, and you will probably have more lives as well.

  11. Comment by Chris T on April 17, 2008 11:03 pm

    G’day,

It took me forever to complete the second cylce, but after that I immediately finished it a third and fourth time and am currently on 82,000 with 26 lives, and was feeling pretty proud of myself until I came across this site!

Something tells me I’d better quit before it consumes me and I lose everything!

Actually, there is a cheat. Just Google search “brickbreaker cheat” and there you have it.

I’ve had every addiction there is. Crack, alcohol, Disco, Donuts. Brickbreaker is by far the worst of them. Sometimes, in the early light of dawn, I see the brick breaker paddle, creaping up the horizon. Then the multicolors that you see, when you get a life, but die at the same time, all start flashing. And the halicination does not stop until I start playing brick breaker.

I am am man destroyed by the never ending battle to keep the ball from hitting the ground. It takes every mental, and physical discipline to keep concentration, and avoid mistakes. After all, one mistake, and the ball drops.

I’m glad to hear there are others. Hopefully one day society with rid itself from this addictive epidemic they call brickbreaker.

I am absolutely addicted to this wonderful game, and I’m proud of it! I actually got my Blackberry for the specific purpose of being able to play Brick Breaker all the time. I have found the cheat by googling it, but it will not work for me for some reason. Does anyone have an idea why this would be true?

  15. Comment by Bob Lefcovich on June 11, 2008 7:49 pm

I have been playing brick breaker for about three weeks. My wife says the only difference between myself and a heroin addict is the drug of choice. I also looked up cheats after I saw some of the amazingly high scores. Anyway, I made it through the first cycle to about level 6 of the second cycle to 20,590 in about a week. My secret was getting level 16 (the infamous “U”) to get so low that the ball could hardly exit the sides. After that the rest were fairly easy. Are there any other games of this type that any of you find as enjoyable and mesmerizing as this one?

HI. My name is manny. I am a recovering brickbreakaholic. I have been clean for 3 months 2 days and 6 hours. I hope that no one has to go though what I did. I t was a long hard fall before I finally gave it up. My life is now phoneless. I can only talk on house phones now. I have no money left from playing brickbreaker all night and almost all day. Good luck to all. Manny Breaker

I write this from my Bberry. I’m alone in the dark, resting from a bout with the brickbreaker. Each night I stay up too late playing this game, its makes me so angry some nights that I can’t fall asleep. I just don’t have the focus tonight. Like so many others before me, I chase the dragon of level 16. My addiction is so young, but it has aged me beyond my years. I know once I beat the U, it won’t stop. This habit torures me - tonight I am so worn I did not protect the lives I had won or morn the balls that were lost. It has drained me to the core. Tonight, I weep for us all.

  18. Comment by Breaker of Bricks on August 6, 2008 8:11 pm

    The ‘U’, the horrible ‘U!’

I thought I was the only one that couldn’t get past this friggin’ thing! I shudder every time I get there. Unless I have like a dozen lives when I arrive there, it’s a lost cause.

Every once in a while, the game honors me with a ‘Gun’ and I can blast away some of the rocks below. But that’s rare.

I still haven’t managed to get through all 34 levels yet but I’m not a die-hard addict (yet). At least I’ve broken the 100,000 ranking.

I can hardly wait to score 1,000,000 points. Then I’ll be right up there with all the full-time Chinese Brickbreakers. Maybe they’ll sell me their rankings.

Then at least I won’t have to give up my business.

well I am proud to say, I am NOT addicted to brickbreaker. I have yet to get past level 6. Sometimes I play when I am just bored, or driving in a car…ok I am the passenger. sometimes I play while at concerts…have not played during church….so you can see, I am Not addicted……

My wife wants me to go to BBA (BreakBreakers Annonymous) and go through the 10-step program but I told her that I have to admit that I’m addicted first… and I’m definitely NOT addicted!

If I was addicted, I’d be ranked at least in the top 50,000 and I’m a long way from there. After all, I’m doing this without any cheats - a little like rock-climbing without a safety harness.

The only problem I have is that sometimes I miss my exit on the expressway because I’m trying hard to get past the friggin’ “U”. But I just get off at the next one and double back through the traffic going the other way.

I do find the fact that my Brickbreaker comes with a phone very useful. I still have to learn how to use it. They tell me that there is is also an email function on it that I can use. Some people call it a Blackberry but I still prefer to call it my Breakbreaker.

Anyways I can stop playing any time I want — I just don’t feel like stopping yet. Maybe when it starts to interfere with my normal life.

Gotta go… I have to take out the garbage from three weeks ago.

I am in the same boat, very addicted. Just as some posters said I tend to accumulate a lot of points and lives but then suddenly the ball would get stuck and I have to restart the Pearl and start over. It’s a shame, but still, I love the game.

  23. Comment by WPW on September 3, 2008 10:54 am

I currently just broke a million and didnt use any cheat codes. What is the highest score recorded? Does anyone know?

  24. Comment by Rob-the-Addict on September 4, 2008 11:25 pm

Like others before me, I’m writing this on my BB Curve. Between thoughts, reverting to my game.
My wife and I used to zone out and play on the couch, a continuous battle between us. Until one day… I hear, “ha, ha, ha!! Did it!” She beat my personal best. Mere noobies at the time, 9860. She finished just over my dreaded 10K barrier. For months I couldnt get the point totals, on any level, she would achieve. I could not reach 10K. My highest was 9840.
Bored at work, I start a round, stopping to work periodically. After work, I was still playing the same bout. Level 13, my nemisis! I had passed it once and proceeded to lose 7 lives on 16. Passed. 14. 15. Breeze. 16, the ‘U’. Top middle block releases ‘Catch’. First time ever, I beat it! I was dancing like a typical “white guy”. Still, under 10000 points. *sigh*
    17. 18. 19. 20….
What’s going on? I’m unstoppable, so I thought.
31 saw me coming and played a vallent match. But still, barged on.
    32. Out of nowhere ‘Multi’. Boom! Balls everywhere at blurred speed. Life gone. Bam! Again! I didn’t know what to do. My oldest son watching over my shoulder, who was cheering no more then 20 minutes previous, no heard saying, “that can’t be good, dad.”
I wasn’t. One life remained. I launch my ball and seek a brick. Guess what, ‘Multi’. I choose to stay away. A stray riccochet sends the ball directly under the capsule. I’m done for. A sigh of frustration and relief.
Level 32 my crowning glory. Little did I realize my score. 16130. Over 10K AND beat/destroyed my wife’s score. Victory is mine!
She gave up as my addiction grew and said, as flat as the screen you read this upon, “Wooo. Hooray. That’s nice. I’m reading my book.”
Since, I’m having troubles beating levels 7 and 8. Ha, ha, ha! But alas, one day “cycle one” will fall!
Good luck to all and happy BrickBreaking.

    Rob-the-Addict,

Thanks for the post. I’m glad to hear that you and your wife break bricks together. All my wife (married last month after 5 year courtship) wants to do is break my phone over my head!

I like that you guys compete against each other. I have often thought up different ways to make the game more challenging… playing on the subway, with my left hand, or even with a blackberry in each hand!

SInce there are quite a few people on this blog who consider themselves masterbreakers and can score over 1MM points, I have even considered doing a timed challenge. Each player goes head-to-head for a set amount of time to see who can accumulate the most points.

There would be some serious strategy involved this type of competition. Obviously, you would not want to die because that wastes time. Furthermore, one may only want to hit the bricks from their bottom surfaces to make the ball bounce back down to one’s paddle to keep control over it, and finally one may even pass over 1-ups in order to keep lasers which could potentially help one rack up big points quickly!

    What do you think?

  26. Comment by Tag on September 11, 2008 9:18 am

I have added up the time to get to 10,000, around twenty five minutes and unless I am missing something the people who got up to seven million would have had to work 43 days for eight hours a day to achieve this. Or A month and a half straight on 8 hour days? There has to be a cheat unless prisoners have blackberrys.

  27. Comment by MasterBreaker on September 12, 2008 11:04 am

    Tag,

Thanks for the post. I assure you there are no cheats.
You hit the nail on the head… Everyone who is achieving these scores is a prisoner to their blackberry!
I think I have a more accurate way to estimate how much time it takes to achieve these scores. You must find the time it takes to get through one round of 34. Each round will yield you about 17,500 points (rough average). I think you will find that it takes several months to achieve a score of 7MM. The latter levels are more challenging, therefore taking more time. They also yield fewer points since they have less bricks.

Let me know if anyone knows how much time it takes for one round of 34. There may be some variation between players. It took me a couple of months to reach 1,450,660, but I did not play 8 hours a day!

Its so nice to see im not the only one addicted to brickbreaker. Firstly, the U level 16.even i was stuck at it for the longest time the trick is to loose a life when the brick starts falling down so that with a new life they stay and then its easy to break them.My friend had 26000 on his blackberry i was so happy i made it though all 34 levels then back to 15th got to his score and called him up.he’s like im on 42,000 now…hahaha i felt like throwing my blackberry the addiction is so annoying i hate it the only way out is to get another phone!

  29. Comment by Steve on September 27, 2008 6:03 pm

The only way to actually has to be a hack. I’ve seen the high scores and there’s one, at least, that only has the first level completed and has over a million points.
I have a personal competition with a friend to beat his score. He has the lead at 11k over my 9k.
    This could help me!

I am currently at 606,590 with 98 lives. It took me thousands of games to finally break through the 35,000 range and then it hit with this current game. I constantly pull my bb to play (in the movies at red lights, etc). I can’t let it go. I realize it is friggin boring now, pointless, but I think I may go for the new top score of 6.5 million, which will take me a few months. i keep playing and playing and playing and am now worried about things like my rolling ball going bad or god forbid my bb crashing. Ok, enough typing, I have to go through the levels for the 36th time

I guess it’s sad to say, but I too am a Brick breaker addict. I guess I know it’s bad now that I was on my Berry searching for a website. I finally got to level 26 after trying forever. I’m on my 5th BB and everytime I get one, I go straight to brickbreaker. I’m scared to switch to the Storm because I figure it doesn’t have the game. I play more than 5 hours a day. If I wake up in the middle of the night…I play. Usually it gets so bad that I have to delete the application! What a shame. We all need help. Lol.

wow. I also read this entire list of comments with tears of extreme laughter rolling down my face. everything mentioned is true. i work for verizon and am almost always on brickbreaker when im not with a customer. the new storm has the game also but the touchscreen makes moving the paddle impossible for me!!

do you guys not see that you’re wasting hours a day on this? The individual conquered BrickBreaker, not with a score, but by STOPPING PLAYING IT! Can’t you see you’re addicted to it? Spend your time socializing with humans, or doing something productive, not bouncing a ball on a screen breaking blocks, on a screen. Sure, do it when you’re bored, but not when you could be talking to a person, or learning something new. Once brickbreaker affects your sleep, or interferes with your life (like you take out your loss on your boyfriend), put it down.

  37. Comment by Michelle on December 2, 2008 12:36 am

I can’t stop. Al, you’re right. It is affecting my life. I once THREW my BB at my boyfriend because he told me we were late for dinner at his parent’s place. I was playing like crap. It’s really messing my life up…and its a STUPID game. I can’t stop.

  38. Comment by Breaker of Bricks on December 16, 2008 10:13 am

I haven’t been here for awhile since I went through intervention by my family.

It was a terrible time. Even though I realized that my $50 million company was nosediving and I looked like Howard Hughes in his last days (except I had to keep my fingernails short by biting them off).

I even went so far as living in a hotel so I could get away from everyone and play in peace. It was my sole motivation in life. Now I understand what drug addicts go through.

I had spare BBs stashed away all over my house, car and business. Whenever my family took away my BB, I would pretend that that I was finished and go off to sulk, only to grab one of my spares and start up again.

The final straw was when I got to 2,789,741 and realized that I was NOT number 1.

I asked myself, “Is that all there is?”

It was like winning an Olympic medal and then come crashing down.

I felt so hollow and ashamed of myself as I looked into the sad and gaunt eyes of my now bedraggled children. It was a look I will never forget.

Through sheer determination and a LOT of help from my loving family, I struggled to regain my former self. I’m still working at re-building my company and my relationship with my wife.

I have also started a foundation called the Victims of Blackberry Abuse (VBBA) and am working with the governemnt and other organizations in stopping the flow of Blackberries into the country from Canada. I know it will be an uphill battle with BB-addicted Obama now in office.

I am currently working on a new website to help those in need, a place where families and co-workers can find information on this terrible addiction.

I know that I will never be completely free of my BrickBreaker addiction, so I watch re-runs of Family Guy and the Suite Life of Zack and Cody (sometimes old Bugs Bunny cartoons too) to keep my mind sharp and focused elsewhere.

Good luck to all you addicts out there!

  39. Comment by Pete on December 22, 2008 8:02 am

I’m in the middle of that “Breakthrough” game right now and it’s starting to piss me off! Just realising that I’m probably not ever going to lose, bar phone dying or sending the ball into the ether, and it’s rather a let-down! On the 10th cycle it just gets pretty damn boring. I’ve started to get rather lazy with my lives as well, as I’ve realised there’s no particular need to have more than 50 as I’m never going to need them. And the really annoying thing is that I can’t even see my score! I’m on about 150,000 right now and I feel compelled to continue at the same time as realising it’s all rather meaningless - I mean do I really want to be the best in the world at Brickbreaker? Personally I have to say that would be more of an indictment than an accolade…

The secret to the “U” or level 16 is getting a “catch” and some patience this way you can catch the ball each drop and fire it back at a more suitable angle this will get you passed this nemesis of the brickbreaker world!!
